Part of the reason for using the Apache license is we don't want people using the "MultiMC" name when redistributing the project. I like both GDLauncher and PolyMC, but I haven't played much Minecraft since Overwolf bought Curse and made it significantly harder for 3rd party launchers to download packs, so it's possible that it's more difficult to use them these days.
